Chaucer Barn is a luxury self-catering retreat, sleeping up to 18 people. The Barn is part of an 80-acre farm, bought by the poet Geoffrey Chaucer for his son in the 14th Century. It has its own 5-acre landscaped garden with beautiful views over rolling fields to mature woodland. Guests are welcome to roam the farm with its 12th Century ruins of Gresham Castle of Paston Letters fame.
The accommodation has 9 double bedrooms, 4 offer the option of twin or double bed arrangements. There are 7 bathrooms (3 en-suite), 4 reception rooms, a games room and an 18 seated dining table. Details are below:
Kitchen & banqueting hall
Enjoy sumptuous banquets with friends around the large dining table with an overhead candelabra and seating for up to 20 guests. The main open plan area is cathedral-like in proportion, but has a warm cosy feel, being filled with English Oak and heated York stone floor. A walk-in larder leads off the fully equipped kitchen.
Games room & pink sitting room
Large adjoining games and reception room, each with open fire, open joisted oak ceilings with massive oak beams and oak floors. Each room opens west (via a fully sliding, floor to ceiling glass wall) onto a York stone patio. The games room features table tennis, darts board and games cupboard to suit all ages. Reception room features large LCD 46″ flat screen television, DVD player and x-box.
Tucked in a cosy corner off the kitchen the “snug” sitting room has comfortable sofas, an open fire and oak ceiling making it the perfect place to curl up and read a book.

Bask in the morning sunshine with a coffee overlooking the herb garden and terrace.

Relax in the first floor drawing room with stunning views across the garden. Features an open fire and the open gallery looks down to the main dining area.
A minstrel`s gallery leads to the master bedroom with king-size 6`6 Bateau Lit bed with en-suite bathroom and antique roll-top cast iron bath and separate shower.
The blue bedroom
Large en-suite featuring floor to ceiling sliding glass windows giving spectacular views across garden, fields and woodlands. En-suite with antique brass fittings and roll-top bath.
The black bedroom
Luxurious grand bedroom with king-size four-poster bed. Features elaborate wall hangings, custom made teak Indian furniture and original flint wall. Bathroom opposite.
The hessian bedroom
Cosy double room with simple four-poster bed. Rainbow bathroom adjoining.
The garden bedroom
Twin beds (can be made as a double). Features glass French doors opening onto the garden. Shares ground floor Rainbow bathroom.
The orchard bedroom
Chic simplicity with twin beds (can be made as double). Adjoining Bathroom.
The green bedroom
Bright double room with floor to ceiling sliding glass windows overlooking the garden and woodlands. Built-in wardrobe with shower room with w/c opposite.

The Rainbow Bathroom
Large bathroom shared by Garden and Hessian rooms. Features large bath, w/c and brass antique fittings.
With an additional 3 bathrooms including separate shower room. All have w/c, roll-top baths and brass antique fittings.
Feel free to roam the breathtaking 5 acre landscaped gardens now part of the National Garden Scheme. Mix of contemporary topiary and romantic informal including wild flower meadow. Special features – herb garden, pergola with bbq and eating area, lawns, young arboretum, children’s play area and woods.
