Tresillian House is a traditional Regency period country house located on its own private estate 5 miles from Newquay and the surrounding beaches, swimming, surfing and other local family attractions.
The substantial two-storey Regency period country house was originally built in 1849 and many of the original features remain. The gritstone and granite house stands in its private gardens of approximately 22 acres, with lawns, orchards, an ornamental lake with a fountian, and a Victorian walled garden producing flowers and vegetables for the house.
The house has been extensively renovated to a high standard and now sleeps 16, with further accomodation available in the converted Apple Store (6 double bedrooms) and Laundry Cottage (1 double bedroom).
The Ground Floor
The ground floor of the house has a large, light family kitchen/breakfast room with seating for 10. With a beautiful slate stone floor, the traditional kitchen has all the modern facilities you would expect, including an integrated dish washer, fridge, large island and a dual fuel range cooker. The kitchen has recently been refurbished and all facilities are new. Off the kitchen is a larder with a walk-in fridge and freezer, and a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dyer.
The drawing room has wonderful garden and lake views, access to the terrace with a round table that seats ten people and a gas barbecue. There is a library with oak bookshelves, a television and a DVD player. The main dining room seats up to 20 people.
Furnishings have all been renewed to a high standard and the furniture is mostly antique. The floor is for the most part sanded wood with rugs scattered throughout. It also features a full height internal hall with a fine oak staircase illuminated by a glass dome.
There are two downstairs cloak rooms.
There are eight beautifully decorated bedrooms including four doubles, two twins and two bunk rooms. There are four rooms with en suite bathrooms, another double has an adjoining bunk room as well as bathroom, and there are two twin rooms sharing one family bathroom.
All the bathrooms at Tresillian have great character and wonderful views. They are fitted out with high quality sanitary ware. All en suite bathrooms have noth bath and shower facilities . The family bathroom has a free-standing cast iron bath which fits numerous small children. The bathrooms all have heated towel rails and/or radiators.
The Apple Store & Barn
The Apple Store, recently converted, has 6 bedrooms, 5 with en suite bathrooms of which 3 are on the ground floor (2 doubles, 1 twin) which are very convenient for the elderly or anyone who would rather not climb stairs. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, one of which a a twin attached making a family suite. The building has a sunny south facing aspect and overlooks a courtyard garden with lawn. To the back of the building there is a small terrace, a garden laid to lawn and a children’s playground.
The Apple Store has a dining table seating up to 12, and a large sitting area with two double sofas, armchairs and a writing desk. There is TV/ DVD and satellite broadband throughout.
The Laundry Cottage
This charming double bedroomed cottage has fine views over the main lawn and is ideal for accommodating a nanny, or anyone wishing to be nearby but separate from the main house party.
It is simply decorated with a sitting room and shaker-style kitchenette, with a table seating four. As a former laundry this building was where the water was heated to wash the linen and has an enormous original inglenook fireplace fitted with a wood buring stove. There is also central heating, a washer/dryer and a TV.
The Laundry also Cottage faces onto the courtyard garden facing the Apple Store.
The formal garden surrounding the house is laid with lawns and borders leading gently down to the ornamental lake, beyond the lawns are paths and drives through camellia woods and orchards, and a fine walled vegetable garden which is run organically. Flowers fruits and vegetables are grown here to supply the occupants of the house.
Guests are free to wander the private grounds and organised tours of the gardens can be arranged through head gardener Mr. John Harris. Mr Harris is a hugely experienced gardener, author and presenter of BBC Radio Cornwall’s gardening programme. Mr Harris will happily give guests an informative and enjoyable tour of the grounds and gardens. Tressilian orchard currently has more than 110 types of apple tree growing in it.
